SCA Coffee Brewing Courses
FOUNDATION
This one-day course is great for anyone looking to expand their understanding of coffee brewing. We are also offering limited, in person attendance featuring social distancing and sanitation. Persons new to the coffee industry, fans of drinking coffee, salespersons and baristas can learn how to brew for any coffee to find your ideal cup.
To participate via distance learning you will need access to good working internet and a laptop or tablet. Coffee brewing equipment is also necessary to participate in the tasting exercises. Use your own or we can provide equipment options at an additional cost.
In this course we will learn:
Coffee Knowledge - origins, sensory impacts of species, process, and freshness
Brewing Methods and Equipment - methods, devices, and grinders
Brewing Guidelines - 7 essentials elements of brewing coffee
Brewing Process - using different devices
Brewing Analysis - describing the brew and adjusting paramaters to find optimum balance
Maintenance – cleaning
Course Fees: $225 includes online instruction, coffee supplies, digital or printed course materials, and shipping within the USA. Shipping outside US is additional. SCA Certificate available for an additional $50 certificate fee.
This course can be bundled with any of our other courses for a 15% discount.
INTERMEDIATE
No prerequisite needed but attendees should have some experience in coffee and brewing or have completed
The Brewing Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course. It is ideal for someone who has brewing experience and wants to explore how to improve coffee quality.
This course covers a wide range of topics, including
1. an exploration of the brewing process in terms of device,
2. extraction order and wetting;
3. the essential elements of brewing and their individual influence on the final cup;
4. the scientific method of measuring and charting coffee strength and extraction;
5. the analysis of brewed coffee and adjustments to consider in order to deliver a delicious, well balanced cup, and
6. the importance of cleaning and maintenance.
